MSCRF Pre-Clinical or Clinical

The Maryland Stem Cell Research Fund was established by the Governor and the Maryland General Assembly under the Maryland Stem Cell Research Act of 2006. The purpose of the Fund is to promote State-funded human stem cell research and medical treatments through Grants to public and private entities in the State. More information at


The purpose of this Pre-Clinical and Clinical Stem Cell Research Grant Program is to solicit applications from for-profit Companies that wish to conduct research in the State of Maryland using human stem cells to advance medical therapies. This Program is intended only for Companies requesting funds for Projects that have clearly defined achievable milestones.

Eligible Recipients

Maryland-based for-profit research Companies of all types are eligible for Pre-Clinical and Clinical Research Grants. No MSCRF funding will be used to support work performed outside of Maryland. Companies based outside of Maryland are only eligible for funding for research that will be conducted within the State of Maryland. Companies conducting clinical research may be based elsewhere in the United States, but the work funded under this RFA must be conducted at a site in Maryland. Companies conducting pre-clinical research must be based in Maryland.

Investment Conditions

Applicants for an Pre-Clinical or Clinical Research Grant may request up to seven hundred and fifty thousand dollars ($750,000), budgeted over a maximum period of three (3) years.

Application Process

Once a year cycle with new RFA coming out in early October:
Pre-Application due by mid-November
Full application due by mid-January.
