The Role of Technology Transfer Offices

The offices of technology transfer at the various Maryland universities and federal laboratories serve to support innovations developed by the faculty and researchers at their institutions.  The tech transfer office evaluates the commercialization potential of these technologies, files patent applications to protect this intellectual property (“IP”), and licenses this IP to companies who develop it into commercial products and services.
